Puppies, Kittens, Rabbits, Hamsters, Fish Tanks, Exotic Pets and Bird Houses!

December 29, 2006

Pet’s, any kind of pet can be a welcome addition to your family. Children love to play with puppies and kittens. They learn about life as their pets grow and mature. Dog’s and cat’s are wonderful companions to both the young and old of any family.

Rabbits, hamsters and birds bring a touch of natures wildness into our lives as we care for pets that are a little different than what everyone else has. Not everyone owns a parrot or a ferret or even a hamster. While these animals require different care than a dog or cat, their living habits and routines can be very instructional and entertaining.

Tropical Fish and Aquariums.

The sparkle and shimmer of both saltwater fish and freshwater fish bring an elegance and sophistication to our home or office that no other pet can. Not only that, fish are quiet.

Whatever your interests in pets is, always try to choose the best pet products and pet supplies so your special pet, no matter what it is, will have the best nutrition and pet care available.

Tsunami Day

December 29, 2006

A Poem - By Lorraine Kember

It was a day like any other and mother, father, sister, brother, were carrying out the customs of their land. When suddenly without warning, Mother Nature came calling, shook the earth and stole the ocean from the sand.

Many gazed in wonder before their world was torn asunder, when the massive wall of water reached the shore. They, uncomprehending that the life they knew was ending and that this day would change the world for ever more.

Frantic now and running; they joined the fleeing throng, many drowned along the way, but the water bore them on. Nature showed no favorites on that fateful day, countrymen and tourists, fell victim to her spray. The young, the old, the meek the bold, caught up in its deadly swirls; along with the houses boats and cars, floated men, women, boys and girls.

The aftermath was destruction as far as the eye could see, babies torn from mothers arms were found in the debris. Bodies floated everywhere, and survivors called the name of a loved one who had disappeared and would never be seen again.

How to Create an Original Melody

December 28, 2006

Here’s a method I use that works. First, sit down at your piano or keyboard and just improvise. I suggest improvising first because music that is created in this way is at its freshest. It’s not adulterated or thought up. It is pure inspiration. Now, there will come times during improvisation where you may say to yourself, “this is nice and I’d like to develop it.” You see, now you have an original melody to develop.

The trick is you don’t need a lot of material to begin with. JUST TWO BARS IS ENOUGH to start you on your way. I usually work within 8-bar phrases so I know that the melody will usually end or repeat itself after 8-bars. I say usually because sometimes, the melody does not want to fit nice and neat into a predefined 8-bar phrase. But more times than not, the 8-bar phrase will serve you well

Turbo-Charging Your Writing Career - 6 High-Yield Strategies

December 28, 2006

Hands up all those who’d like to have a successful writing career.

(What’s that you say? What do I mean by ’successful’?)

All right, I know all writers are individuals. To some, ’successful’ might mean just getting one article published. Others want a string of best-selling novels, recognition in the supermarket and megabucks in the bank account. So, for the purposes of this article, we’ll define ’successful’ as “achieving regular or ongoing publication credits in tandem with a growing income”. That income should increase as you become more recognized and popular as a writer.

Now for the crunch. How do you achieve success? How do you win a growing readership? And the biggie: how do you make sure you get paid for your efforts?

There’s a simple answer. You need to INVEST in your career. Think of your writing as a fledgling business. Wise investment will help it to grow - and help you to get the results you want.

  • The Joy Of Having Puppies!

    December 28, 2006

One of the greatest thrills for a little boy or girl is having new puppies in the home. Puppies, dogs and having a puppy bring a sense of well being and comfort to people of all ages, whether young or old. They provide an excellent opportunity for children to learn the skills necessary in raising and caring for a new born animal. We all know that one day even a cute little puppy will grow into a large, mature dog. Yet, while they’re young, with that soft fur and large clumsy feet, puppies have a way of endearing themselves to us.

Puppies, dogs and owning a puppy make excellent companions.

Whether a person is young or old, puppies, dogs make wonderful companions and friends. It’s not so much what a puppy can do as it is how they respond to us. Puppies are excited and anxious to see us when we come home; the wiggle so much on a kitchen floor that they practically fall down. And when you leave, oh the sad face they make thinking that you’re going to leave them all alone. Yes, we all know that one day even small puppies grow into dogs; but as a pet and friend no companion can match the joy and thrill of puppies.

    Are There Really Black Roses?

    December 28, 2006

Throughout the course of time, black roses have conjured up a variety of symbolic meanings. From unnatural worlds to death, vengeance, farewell or rebirth, the black rose has come to be viewed in a number of different ways depending on the occasion.

Though symbolic meanings may differ, the interesting truth is that black roses do not even exist. What many believe to be black roses are actually dark-red colored roses, which have such a deep color that they appear to be black. Perhaps someday not too far in the future a black rose will exist as many in the field are working with the myriad of rose varieties and colors to come up with the coveted black formula.

In the meantime, there are quite a few roses come which come close. Here are a couple of the more well-known varieties of “black roses” gardened in different climates all over the world:

    Black Magic
One of the darkest roses, this rose has black buds before it blooms into velvety garnet flowers.

    Black Baccara
Perhaps the darkest, this blackberry colored rose also tends to be blacker before its blooms begin to open into velvety textured petals, growing up to four feet tall with flowers June through August.

Wireless Meditation: Top Five Tips For Wherever-Whenever Mindfulness

    December 27, 2006

The problem with meditation is attachment.

We get in the habit of needing our altar, favorite cushion, incense, CD, certain time of day, necessary length of time, or particular style of sitting. If we can’t do it the "right" way, we tend to skip it altogether. We get so attached to the trappings that we get a little testy if we don’t have everything just so.

This is funny when you think about it. In Buddhism, the core belief is that life is full of suffering, and this suffering is due to attachment. Isn’t it ironic that we become so attached to the idea of meditation? Isn’t it a bit absurd to think of followers of particular styles of meditation as obsessive about their own approach?

I find it hilarious. I also find it destructive.

I’m all for whatever works. If committing to a ritual is right for you, by all means, light that candle. If you must do some yoga exercises prior to sitting, go for it. If you need to go for a run before chanting, be my guest.

8 Quick Tips on Creating Vivid, Memorable Characters

    December 27, 2006

These 8 tips on using characters in your stories will help you make sure that readers are involved with your story people right from the start.

Tip 1: Make sure that the reader knows as early as possible who the viewpoint character is in any scene. Do this by tapping into thoughts or emotions that can only be known by the viewpoint character.

Tip 2: Decide on and mention names early in the story. Carefully chosen names help the reader get a rounded picture of your character. (It also helps to stimulate the writer’s imagination.)

Tip 3: Give an early “thumbnail sketch” of your character. While it is boring for the reader to suffer through a lengthy description of any character, don’t make the mistake of being too sparing with your description. Give the reader enough to form a picture of your character - ‘first impression’ in looks and personality.

Tip 4: Ask: “Whose story is it?” If one of your secondary characters appeals to you more, and is ‘taking over the story’, you might have chosen the wrong protagonist. Whose story do you most want to tell? Whose story is likely to engage the reader more?

Kittens Are Just The Cutest Things

    December 27, 2006

Is there anything more cute and cuddly than tiny little kittens? They’re small and light. Cats kittens, they’re fragile yet so curious and inquisitive. Kittens bring a sense of well being and comfort into our homes that few other animals can.

While a kitten requires a lot of attention and care, when left to their own devices they can be amazingly creative and playful with just about any little toy or knick-knack they come across. Having a cat as a pet that later has kittens is a wonderful teaching experience for children, of all ages. They learn to care for an animal that is really helpless but offers such a range of amusement.

Why do we love Kittens so much?

What is it about kittens that makes us want to watch them play? They’re energetic and playful, they’re cute and cuddly. Kittens can get more entertainment and amusement out of a ball of yarn or a dropped thimble than one would think possible. That’s what makes them so endearing.

Cats, as pets, are special in their own way; but a kitten looks at his/her world through new, fresh eyes that brings a smile to everyone’s face.
